Dr Gemma Taylor has been awarded the Fred Yates prize.
The panel’s decision to select Gemma was based on the unique aspect of her work across mental health and smoking cessation. She has successfully carved out an area of expertise working across disciplines of addiction and mental health. Her work has already had considerable international impact. In particular, her paper demonstrating the improvement in mental health and reduction in antidepressant use which was awarded BMJ’s “Best Research Paper Award”, and used internationally to frame smoking cessation treatment guidelines.
The panel was impressed by the number of publications, often in high impact of journals, her involvement in translating her work into IAPT specifications, and are looking forward to hearing what she does in the future from her Fellowship award.
The Fred Yates prize is an annual award for researchers in the earlier stages of their career who have made a significant and specific contribution to the addictions field in recent years.
