Join as a member

Are you a policymaker, practitioner, or researcher? Do you have at least 12 months’ experience in the addiction field, or do you have academic or professional qualifications in the subject of addiction? Become a member of the SSA and receive benefits including access to our journals, funding schemes, and reduced-rate attendance at our Annual Conference.

  • voting rights, and ability to attend general meetings and stand for election to the Board of Trustees

Fees and application process

General membership costs £85 a year. Concessionary membership is available for a reduced fee of £30 to current or former members who have retired, are unwaged, or who are former SSA student associates whose academic studies have ended in the past five years.

Applications will open again in January 2025.

Join as an associate

Are you currently studying towards a qualification in the subject of addiction? Become an associate of the SSA to receive most of the benefits of membership but at a reduced rate.

Fees and application process

It costs £25 a year to be an associate of the SSA. This option is primarily available for current (or soon-to-be) students in addiction, and associate (reviewing) editors of Addiction and Addiction Biology.

Applications will open again in January 2025.
