Biography

I hold a BSc in Psychology from Newcastle University and an MSc in Mental Health Studies from King’s College London. I have experience of working in mental health charities and research, community substance misuse services, and education. More recently, I worked on a programme of collaborative research at King’s to develop a mobile app for people in recovery from substance use disorder (SURE Recovery). I have since worked on a qualitative study investigating app users experiences and possible adaptations to the app which could alter substance use trajectories. I have also conducted qualitative interviews with people who were homeless and rehoused in hotels during the COVID-19 pandemic and organise, and provide support to, a national addictions service user network.

My project will utilise an interdisciplinary approach to explore the role of emotional regulation in adults with substance use disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder and experience of interpersonal violence. I will explore service user perspectives and experiences, through longitudinal qualitative interviews, with the aim of building knowledge in this area which can inform theoretical models and future interventions.
