The SSA is pleased to announce the winner of the prestigious Fred Yates Prize for Early Career Researchers – an award created in honour of colleague Fred Yates.

President of the SSA, Professor Owen Bowden-Jones, has announced the decision to award Dr Katie East the 2024 Fred Yates Prize for Early Career Researchers, in recognition of her “outstanding contribution, predominantly in the area of nicotine product use and perceptions”.

Katie is an SSA-funded research fellow who has a track record of disseminating findings to key stakeholders and contributing to policy development, including through the publication of over 50 academic articles in respected journals. She has also “demonstrated positive academic citizenship” through her work as an Associate Editor for the journal, Addiction, through her position as co-chair of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco’s Policy Research Network subcommittee, and through her role on the organising committees of the SSA’s PhD Symposium and Early Career Research Network.

Katie will present her work in a special session at the 2024 Annual Conference, which will be held on 14 and 15 November in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Congratulations to Dr Katie East from everyone at the SSA.
