St George’s Medical School (University of London) and the SSA produced a user-friendly set of factsheets to help integrate knowledge of substance use into the undergraduate medical curriculum. This factsheet examines the health of doctors. After reading the factsheet, medical students will be able to:

  • recognise the responsibility all doctors have to ensure that problems with their own health do not have an adverse impact on their patients
  • understand what help is available for colleagues
  • understand the responsibility doctors have to protect patients
  • know what to do if they suspect a friend or colleague has problems with alcohol or drugs
