SSA members and associates have an exclusive opportunity to plan a session at the next Annual Conference. Submit your proposal by 12 February.
Members and associates are invited to submit proposals for symposia at the 2025 Annual Conference. Each symposium will last 60–80 minutes, feature three presentations, and end with questions and answers. The 2024 Annual Conference included symposia on drug use in young people, gambling-related harms, and public priorities for alcohol research.
If your symposium proposal is accepted, the SSA will book rooms for you and the other symposium speakers at the conference hotel, and contribute up to £1,000 per symposium to cover travel costs.
Please read the following guidance before you apply:
- You may submit up to two applications
- The person submitting the application must be a member or associate of the SSA, but the other speakers don’t need to be
- The SSA would welcome applications that include international speakers as part of the symposium, but ask that applicants be mindful of carbon footprints and cost
- Each proposal should include an itemised budget of all speakers’ travel costs and any other anticipated costs in pounds sterling
- Each proposal should include an abstract of up to 300 words, describing the overarching aims and content of the three talks
- Each proposal should include a ‘declaration of interests’ statement for each speaker
