Tickets are now on sale for the SSA’s Annual Conference – the UK’s foremost gathering of addiction researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and experts by experience. Learn more about the benefits of booking early, the different rates for members and non-members, and the support available for students and people from third-sector organisations.
The Annual Conference is an opportunity to celebrate excellence in addiction science. Last year’s event attracted 240 attendees from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Russia, Switzerland, UK, USA, and Zimbabwe.
The next Annual Conference will take place on Thursday 6 November and Friday 7 November in Newcastle upon Tyne. If you would like to attend, now is a great time to start planning your trip:
- Early-bird tickets are on sale until 13 September, offering discounts of up to £100.
- If you are a student or from a third-sector organisation, you could also be eligible for support towards the cost of the ticket, travel, and accommodation.
Buying your ticket
The price guide below shows the costs for different types of delegates, and the benefits of booking now (buying an early-bird ticket) versus booking later (buying a full-price ticket).
Early-bird tickets | Full-price tickets | |
---|---|---|
Non-members | £325 | £425 |
Members | £240 | £340 |
Student associates | £99 | £121 |
Students/unwaged | £126 | £147 |
SSA members get an additional £85 discount on the price of their tickets. If you are not yet a member, please consider joining. One year’s membership costs £85, so you would recoup this in the price of the ticket, plus receive other membership benefits including free online access to Addiction and Addiction Biology.
Reserve your place at the Annual Conference using either the general booking form or the member and associate booking form.
Getting help with the cost of attending
The SSA runs two funding schemes to support people who would like to attend the Annual Conference, but who would find it difficult due to the cost of the ticket, travel, and accommodation.
1. Supported places
There are a limited number of ‘supported places’, which cover the cost of the conference ticket, and fund up to £200 towards travel and accommodation.
The following groups of people are encouraged to apply:
- undergraduate or master’s students who are currently ‘unwaged’ (e.g. not in paid work, retired) and have applied or will apply to deliver an oral or poster presentation at the conference
- people from third-sector substance use or gambling organisations (e.g. volunteers, workers, or service users)
The SSA would also be happy to receive applications from people in other circumstances that aren’t covered above.
Find out more about the supported places scheme.
2. Dual-attendance bursaries
The dual-attendance bursary was created specifically for PhD students who want to attend both the SSA’s PhD Symposium and Annual Conference. There is no need to ‘apply’ in advance. Any PhD students who attend both events in a single year can claim up to £200 towards:
- travel to/from the events
- accommodation
- food (if not attending evening meals linked to either event)
Find out more about the dual-attendance bursary scheme.
We hope you can join us at this year’s Annual Conference to celebrate excellence in addiction science. If you’ve got any questions, please get in touch.
